Be Careful/Be Safe/Medical Amnesty & 'Tow to Go' Programs

While we understand that the celebration of a new year may include alcohol, we would like to share the following information about getting home safely, and UF’s Medical Amnesty Policy.

UF encourages all students to make responsible decisions and seek medical attention in serious or life-threatening situations that result from alcohol and/or other drug abuse.

If medical attention is required, students should immediately contact professional medical personnel (911).  A student who seeks emergency assistance on behalf of him- or her-self, another student, or a friend experiencing an alcohol and/or other drug related emergency, as well, the individual in distress will not be subject to disciplinary action nor mandatory alcohol and other drug sanctions under the UF Student Conduct Code.

Of course, law enforcement agencies have the ability to enforce the law.

Data has shown that this policy has saved many students’ lives.

Please be sure to look out for one another as you ring in the new year.

AAA is offering their "Tow-to-Go" program this week.

Should an impaired driver be identified, a AAA tow truck will take the vehicle and driver safely home.

Since its inception in 1998, Tow to Go has safely removed more than 22,000 intoxicated drivers from the roads. The service is designed to be used as a last resort. It is offered based on availability of AAA Service Technicians and tow trucks during times of high call volume.

  • Confidential local ride within a 10-mile radius to a safe location
  • Service is provided in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee
  • Free and available to both AAA members and non-members
  • The AAA tow truck takes the vehicle and the driver home

1-800-AAA-HELP is the number.

Make it a safe holiday, and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.
